West Coast Wounded Warriors
Our Wounded Warriors LOVED Thursday night’s dinner.
It was "Everything That is Not Good For You" night, lol. We had hot dogs, taquitos, three kinds of boneless chicken wings, nachos, popcorn, cheese trays, salami trays, guacamole, chips, dips, desserts and more desserts. Ok, ok, I did throw two large vegetable trays in too, the Mom side of me kicked in.
We had scheduled it so we could watch the Thursday Night NFL Football game, but found out a few days prior that they don't get the NFL channel, but I believe the entire Wounded Warriors Barracks was in attendance that night, lol. We met some new Marines that night, everyone had a great time. I think we had a couple of hot dogs left and some desserts, they ate it all, including the veggies.
We were fortunate to spend some time with another one of our 2/7 Marines, Richie, who was awarded a Purple Heart and the Navy Cross for his heroic actions. Another of our favorite Marines who is leaving, breaking our hearts, but we are so happy for him. He'll be starting out his new life this week, we're going to miss him, but he leaves us knowing he is loved.
We want to thank our Three Amigo Volunteers, Alan, Buck and Bill for donating the Chicken Wings so we could keep the cost of the dinner down.
We want to make December's dinner special, so if possible, please make a donation to our PHFS project! December's dinner is going to be so much fun, one of my neighbors and volunteer, Warner Stewart is paying to have a Karoake DJ bring his equipment, think I should record the evening? The guys are really looking forward to it, time for me to get busy planning on the food!
We would also like to say a special thank you to the Warrior Foundation who raised enough money to send every one of these heroes (who are able to travel) home for the holidays.
Thank you again, to all of our parents for making this possible. You are making a difference in the lives of these young men and women. We received this thank you note Thursday night from one of our 2/7 Marines who has been there for a year now:
"Thanks for everything you guys do for us, we appreciate everything." LCpl Michael 2/7
(and of course we all got our hugs of appreciation all evening long, they love Marine Parents!)
Happy Thanksgiving to All!
