East Coast Wounded Warriors
On May 22nd, the East Coast Purple Heart Family Support volunteers served sandwiches to wounded Marines, families and staff on the East wing of the 5th floor at the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Maryland.
About 100 meals were distributed as PHFS volunteers offered a listening ear or a hug to those who needed it.
Volunteer Rene delivered meals to one family waiting in the ICU and eight patients in the behavioral health unit. The family in the ICU was quite familiar with Marine Parents and the mother expressed her appreciation for the informational website.
15 meals were sent to the ambulatory patience center Mercy Hall, and 15 were set aside for families with an incoming medevac later that evening.
The organization Veterans Moving Forward participated in the dinner again with two of their service dogs. The dogs were warmly received by patients and families on the 5th and 7th floors. The nurturing animals always seem to bring smiles to concerned faces.
Thank you to all of our PHFS volunteers for continuing to bring meals and support to our wounded warriors and their families!
