Marine Parents for families of Marines and Recruits to Connect and Share

New Program Began May 2014: Warrior Support Team
After 7 years of support to Purple Heart Heroes and Families, we've moved forward with a new program, Warrior Support Team, to focus on the needs of all returning warriors including wounded, ill, injured, and those living with PTS/COS (Post Traumatic Stress/Combat Operational Stress), as well as the needs of their family members and caregivers. The Marines in our Purple Heart Hero Support program have a lot in common with each other. They all answered a higher calling that drew them to the Corps. They all had a desire to serve and protect others. They all displayed the honor, courage, and commitment required to earn the title "Marine." And, in the blink of an eye, they all had their lives suddenly and violently turned upside down while protecting the rights and liberties we as Americans hold so dear.

For some, the injuries sustained are obvious, as missing limbs, eyes patches, and scars from bullets, shrapnel, and burns make the horrific realities of war impossible to ignore. For others, the injuries are less obvious, as they struggle to overcome the long-term effects of PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injuries. While there may be nothing we can do to remedy the tragedy of this situation, we are on a mission to do whatever is in our power to help these Wounded Heroes during their physical and emotional recovery processes as they learn to live their "new normal", and we strongly encourage you to join us in this endeavor.

We can't do this alone. We need your help!

With that in mind, next Wednesday, November 20, Purple Heart Hero Support is sponsoring an outing for Purple Heart Heroes to Knott's Berry Farm amusement park in Buena Park, California. Each November, the park gives free admission to veterans and active-duty personnel (and one additional guest) as part of their "Military Appreciation Month", but PHHS made it our mission to raise $10,000 to cover other costs associated with the outing. These costs include the rental of seven 55-passenger wheelchair-accessible buses, parking fees, additional tickets for Marines who have more than one child coming with them, and the Marines' breakfasts, snacks and drinks during the day, and group dinner in the evening. Close to 400 Marines and family members are expected to attend this year.

This trip is a great way to treat our Wounded Heroes to a day of fun and laughter-one to remember for a lifetime! It gives them an opportunity to get out in the California sunshine, bond with one another and forget their injuries. You can help put a smile in the hearts of these amazing Marines and whether you donate $1, $10, or $100, every little bit helps.
