Last year, The Purple Heart Family Support program was able to take several Wounded Warriors to a theme park called Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California last year. The Marines are still talking about what a great day they had and have been asking if PHFS is going to do it again. Yes, they are! This November PHFS wants to take a busload of them, but they need your support in helping raise the funds to do so.
The park gives free admission to Veterans every November, but PHFS would like to raise $2500 to cover other costs. These costs include a 55-passenger wheelchair-accessible bus rental and the Marines’ dinners, snacks and drinks during the day. This trip is a great way to treat them to a day of fun and laughter—one to remember for a lifetime! It gives them an opportunity to get out in the California sunshine, bond with one another and forget their injuries.
Since many of our Wounded do not like to be in crowds, PHFS will be taking the Marines on a weekday because it will be one of the least attended days. Last year they never had to wait in lines, which was perfect. There were just enough people there to thank our Marines for their service. The PHFS volunteers had to step back several times so that the tears wouldn’t show.
You can help put a smile in the hearts of our Wounded Warriors. Thank you so much for contributing to the Purple Heart Family Support program. Because of you, the difference the program has been able to make in these young Marines is amazing.
